I want you all to seriously check your budget and find what you can to make a donation. No, I don't want you to not eat or pay your bills. It's been so long I had to get google to resend my stuff to me to even log in.

Apparently, when I wrote my little article about Samhien/Hallowe'en/Halloween/All Hallow's Eve it touches a few folks every year to comment on it. Hell, the last post at this Blog was January of LAST YEAR!?! Almost two years since ANYTHING happened, and people still get worked up about what I said four years ago now? I guess either I really touched a nerve, or I'm feeding the trolls. But honestly, all the comments I've gotten where (all in all) intelligent and rather well thought out, so I don't think it's trolls.

To answer some of the comments:

No, I don't feel I did anything hypocritical in that post. Every last word I said then, I still feel to be the truth. Did I bash anyone's religion? Nope. I did point out that some who call themselves Christians are not because they DO NOT follow Sacra Biblia. I kinda thought that was what I did there...but what the hey.

To learn about Angelology and Demonology, there is no single or even small group of texts to go after. Everything about this metaphysical study is contradictory and dispersed over thousands of years, dozens of cultures, and really is jumbled. Honestly, we have to look into mythology, comparative religion, philosophy, and all the traditional sources (The Encyclopedia of Angels and Demons, Biblical Text, Gnostic TExt, Zoristarian Text, the writings of Dante, Francis of Assisi, Thomas Aquinius, et all) to really get even a vague grasp of the concept. Does this mean it's not worth learning? Not in the slightest, but it does take time and dedication. (And, no, you're not going to learn how to summon them; this is not what Demonologist do.)

Did the Catholic Church set the dates of major Christian holidays right on top of Pagan/Heathen/etc ones? Did they steal left and right for all their rites, rituals, beliefs, and symbols? Yep. Show me any religion in the world that did not do this. All religions are built on older religions' bones. Bhuddism right out of Hindu... Moslem right out of Christian.... Aegyptian right out of the previous Shamantics of the region. As one famous quote goes, "There is nothing new under the Sun."

Anyway, I'm happy to find out that I've made a bit of an impact with my words. We are nothing if we do not learn and grow. Discussions are healthy, for they help us in this task. (Of course, I do reserve the right to think you are a total moron, but I won't tell it to your face.)

May the many eyes of the Watchers be upon you,

D

Moved Serenity Sanctuary

Uggh!

I just had to move Serenity Sanctuary over to a new website. At the same time, we decided to change hosts. So... I went ahead and upgraded the ENTIRE shebang to YaBB 2.2. Damn, that was a pain in the ass. Not because YaBB2.2 is a pain, but because my coding ability is not a good as I would like. All in all though, it was a good move. A few minor tweaks and everything was done in a few days. Downtime of only 24 hours or so, as the DNS servers propagated the new pointers. I have to say, I seriously love HostMonster right about now. Built in FTP client? Nice. Works on Javascript, so you run it right inside their cPanel. Really Nice!

Anyhow, it's all set...pretty much. Just got to wait for the errors and bug report to come in now.

DragonCon, Gamings, and Unprofessionalism, not related...

Well DragonCon was a much better experience for us this year. A lot lest stressful, some of which comes from having some experience, some from not having to deal with bullshit at the last minute. All in all it was a great time. Still, the wife and I would love to be able to actually see more of the Convention itself. This year, I watched one episode of an Anime series and quick walked the Dealer's Room. But, that's how that sort of thing goes, I guess, when one is a departmental director.

I've been playing a MMORPG lately, called Last Chaos. Normally, I avoid this sort of thing, because if I buy a game, I don't think I should have to pay to PLAY the game, which is the case in the traditional MMO business model. However, LC is completely free to download (no actual disks from what I've seen), and if you choose, completely free to play. The game is fully functional without paying a dime. If you like the game, and want to pay, they have an item mall where you can pay money for points and buy stuff you can't get in game or costs a fortune in game. But, here's the best part. Nothing in the mall is something you can't do without. Like armor skins, which ONLY change the appearance of the armor. Or Lucky Smelting Stones, which are guarenteed to give you a plus to your armor....something you can get through regular smelts or heaven stones, just with a risk if it not working. All in all it's a great game. But, just like all RPGs, leveling is monotonous after a while.

Onto a bit of a rant about unprofessionalism. I see it daily at work. We have a husband supervising a wife...the wife was hired two weeks after another co-worker was told they wouldn't hire his wife to work at the OTHER PLANT (in essence a different site entirely). Now, they are suprised the head office noticed this was happening and are taking steps to fix this fuck up? Please. Additionally, the Assistian Site Commander, who is a great guy and tries to fix most of the problems, is leaving. The husband is saying he's going to quit if someone gets that spot over him...the someone being a Sergent/Shift Supervisor, while the husband is a Corporal. I hate this job. I am trying to get student loans and such to pay my own way to the Police Academy. Maybe that will pay off soon.

I got rear-ended in April. Now the Insurance Company (the other driver's that is) isn't returning phone calls. Look folks, be professional. Return the call and give a final answer. Then, I can figure out what I need to do to finish getting the vehicle fixed.

Finally, I find out United Fan Con (UFC) is dropping Peter David as a guest after having used his name for months of advertising. Why? Because they didn't do their accounting right. All of a sudden, just before the Con, they can't afford airfare and the hotel room. I've been gifted with the time to sit down and chat with both Peter and his Wife Kathleen. These are two wonderful people, hard-working, and genuinely happy to meet-and-greet with fans! Gods above, this sort of behavior makes all Cons look bad. Big ones, small ones. The only thing I hope for is that UFC folds this year.

Wishing for Elohim to Show Me Patience,

D

Automotive issues....

Great...now that things are looking up, something start to act up. On March 1, a deer ran into our van. I do mean it that way. We humans didn't hit the thing; it charged at the van. It's done considerable damage. We've put it in the Body Shop, so it should be good to go in a few days.

However, the truck started running a bit roughly. I will have to see about figuring that out tomorrow or Friday. I hate loosing sleep, but I have to.

But, everything should be ok.

At least my wife listens to her feelings. Two days before the deer hit, she woke up in the middle of the night and put comprehensive coverage (covers hitting an animal) on the van.

Thankful the Angels watch over us.

D

Well...damn.

It's been a while hasn't it?

What has happened since July of last year? A bunch.

First, I have a job. I finally got a company to hire me. I am now a "Security Officer" for a private firm. I am rent-a-bacon. However, I am not happy with this company. They don't treat people right. First of all, promotions are pure B.S. One gets a promotion simply because the Site Commander likes you. It doesn't matter if you do your job. It doesn't matter if you are not a discipline problem. It doesn't matter how long you've been there. Same thing with pay increases. One person was making more as a Sargent and single shift supervisor, than the Lieutenant/Assistant Site commander. That's pure bull.

Additionally, the Site Commander is senile. I gave him a list of the days off I would need for the rest of the year, in writing, back in January. I needed one day off just recently, and he forgot about it. I reminded him of it two weeks prior, and a week prior, but he forgot. He also has no backbone. The client company keeps adding stupid busy-work, which detract from our mission as Site Security. He hasn't demanded a pay-raise, increase in number of guards, or just told them "no, we can't do that".

So, what does that mean? It means I am looking for a new job, already, and I've only been with this company since October. I am going to try to get on with the County, so keep your fingers crossed.

Next, I'm in charge of a new pagan forum. A few folks I know have had problems with the pagan site I used to frequent quite often. I still go there, but not as often now. So, they chose to make their own. The problem? They didn't know anything about community building and only a basic concept of website building. What they created was WAY to big for a forum site. They brought me on-board to help figure out what they were doing wrong. After a little bit, one of the moderators made some suggestions for some minor changes (i.e. reducing the number of forums) and the big-wig went nuts. She ended up having to be removed, forcibly from the site. It was ugly. When all the dust settled, I became the big-wig for actual operations (the owner is paying for everything, I make it work). The link has been added over to the links on the right. Serenity Sanctuary still needs work, but I am slowly working on it. I will have it right eventually.

The kiddo is doing ok. She let her grades drop dramatically, so she's not allowed to watch TV, listen to the radio, and only use the computer for school work. It's helped. She signed up for JROTC when she starts High School next year. She thinks the added discipline of the program may help her. I think it's a good thing she's starting to think about her needs to help her make life better.

We are still Directing for Dragon*Con... and we are still trying to make things better for our department.

My Altanta Thrashers are the top seed in the Division. They've never made the play-offs, and there is a good chance they may when the Division championship. I am a happy panda.

I'm going to try to post more often.

May the Sword of Michael protect you,
D</spam>

Getting all Caught up

I've been a bad blogger...I've not updated in a very long time. I know this has been a cause of pain and suffering; a cause of horrible self-doubt to my one reader (HI AUTUMN!). Now that we have completed our quarterly overbearing, egotistic arrogance quota for Summer of Two Thousand, Six, we can get on to catching up.

First and mostly, my time has been caught up with one of the vises I mentioned earlier. I volunteer way too much.

As you know, I am one of the poohbas at the RPGC, and well, I've been trying to get some stuff straightened out on my end to relate it the RPGC. Well, that project is in it's first draft.

On top of that, I (along with my wonderful wife) currently hold the directorship for Guest Transportation for DragonCon (link on the right). Earlier in the year, this meant mostly brainstorming and building up staff. Oh, and convincing my bosses to convince their bosses to give us more staff members. Prior to this year, GuestTrans had a staff of thirteen...including two directors. So, that meant 11 people to do the work. Well, four of them were driving vans. And the rest were needed in the Airport to track down the Guests. This meant it was difficult (read: almost impossible) to get the staffers breaks after a certain point on Thursday and Friday. Meaning people worked longer and harder than was really acceptable. Well, now we have nineteen staff positions...and I have more staff then slots...atleast right as I type this. This might change in the next few days though, so I will wait on my elation of having enough people to do the job.

Anyhow, the Con is now a very limited number of days away. Labor Day weekend is FAST approaching, so all of us Directors are trying to finalize all the details we can to make this year the smoothest show yet. At current, I have two major projects I am trying to get done. One, get the preliminary flight information, to set a schedual for the staffers. Two, to complete the offical GuestTrans Staff Badge for DragonCon 2006. After the Con is over, I might post the image....we will see.

Unfortunately, we will not be making the final General Staff Meeting this Saturday as it is my neice's birthday, and we are going to head down to Statesboro to hit the water park there.

Now, on top of all this, I volunteered again! Sorta. I kind of got drafted. A small group of freinds decided to open a small pagan forum site. The problem is the "Site Goddess" doesn't really know how to use the Bullitien Board Program, so I when a very good freind of mine asked, I troubleshooted the issues they were having. Somehow, I went from a temperary troubleshooter to a Global Moderator, the "Fourth Bouncer of the Apocolypse", a Saint, and the Angel of Death in one fell swoop.

It's rather fun to be an Angel on a message board again. You may recall back in the days of the Amethyst Alliance, I was The_Seraphim, leader of the netspies and in charge of the chat server.

Unfortunately, the job market in Augusta still is non-existant for me. Either I am over-qualified for the position, and they won't hire me because they "can't afford me"; or, I am no longer qualified/certified and it would cost me money I just don't have to reup said certification. I know this sounds amazing, but I would be happy with a job that pays $7.00/hr at them moment. It would cover the bills and groceries!

So, for the next month or so, I probably won't be posting anything new. Simply because I just don't have the time! So, see you when things get back to a more normal pace.

Watching the Angels gird themselves

D

On the Interwebs

For those of you with high-speed connections, this podcast is really worth your time. I don't really know why, but it is something that occurs. I shouldn't behave this way, as she doesn't act this way when I do. In fact, she encourages me to do so. "It's good to talk to those people, because they made your life better." I know she's going to be by my side when all the conversation is done, so this jealousy doesn't make any sense.

She's right of course. So, I'm slowly working on removing those urges from my personality. I've killed the urge to snoop into her private stuff. Now, I just have to kill the concern I feel when I know she's talking to someone else online (she usually tells me weither I inquire or not).

Now, I'm not going to change my personality for her. That would be stupid. But, I am going to become more open about my feelings of jealousy, and make an attempt to avoid letting them control me.

And that is a good thing.

Angel's guide you home always,

D

Hockey....of the pseudo-Greek type!

I suck at making predictions.

"What?" you ask.

Well, My prediction for the medals in Men's Hockey this year was as follows:

Gold- Slovakia
Silver-Finland
Bronze-Canada

Now, I know most people are still groaning at the fact this post is hockey...again. But, I like hockey. I apparently can't pick the winners in a tournement though.

Slovakia just got beat by the Czech Republic, 2-1. So, they're out.

Canada got beat by Russia, 2-0. So, they're out, too.

Atleast, Finland made it to the Semi-finals.

Slovakia didn't show up to play until over half-way through the game. And then they started to play. Well, that doesn't work. You have 60 minutes to play, so your ass better be ready to play when the puck drops the first time.

Anyway....

Women's hockey

Team USA beat themselves in the loss to Sweden. They got two up and got cocky. They started show-boating. Guess what? You loose when you do that shit. And guess what? They got beat in a shoot-out.

Today or yesterday, I see an interveiw with one of the vets for Team USA and she (without outright saying it) is blaming the loss on the coaching. Guess what? Bullshit. You were up 2-0, and you lost it. The coach can't keep you from fucking up. The coach by the way announced he's quitting. Smart move. If the players don't think you are doing a good job, they aren't going to listen to you anyway.

Oh well.

It's Official, I volunteer too much

It's official, my wife and I are publicly the Directors of Guest Transportation for DragonCon. Now, there are some serious perks to the job (like the free room for the con). We have some ideas for making things better in the coordination department, because well, guest sometimes get missed at the WORLD'S BUSIEST AIRPORT on Labor Day Weekend. Shouldn't be a suprise or even that big of a deal...but it is. So, the wife and I are going to try to fix it so no one can say the Con is responsible.

Now, I have to say, most of the Guests for Cons (movie-stars, authors, T.V. Stars, etc.) are great folks and take mistakes/blips in stride. The Deities bless these people.

Some of them however, are retards. Those guys and gals need to get a life, not the fans. The Fans do stuff because the love the story, love the escape the story gives them from the crap we all go through on a daily basis. Without the Fans, the Stars don't get paid, so if an volunteer misses you at the Airport because you aren't at the designated meeting points, don't bitch at the staffer. It's not our fault YOU screwed up.

We hope to deal more with the handlers/agents than the Stars for those that have them. Not because we don't like talking with the Stars, we do (points everyone over to Virginia's blog and e-store on the right). But, the Stars are paying Handlers to deal with the arraignments, so we need to deal with the Handler instead of the Star. The Star should have a good time too, and figuring out where to be when isn't exactly the most enjoyable thing on the planet. It's piss-poor planning to go check with every movie star on the Walk of Fame or every author in the Author's Room when most of them have an agent. It's unprofessional. Besides, everyone remembers "Piss-poor planning produces piss-pour results."

So, we are going to try to make sure we have a badass plan in place BEFORE the Con to handle the job. But, ladies and gentlemen, Happy Holidays is a nice and all inclusive saying. Merry/Happy Christmas is a Christian thing.

Yes, I said it.

Christmas is about Jesus. It's the ritualistic celebration of Yoshua ibn Yoseph's birth. Happy "Birthday" Jesus. No matter how commericalized Christmas gets, it's a holiday about Jesus. But, while the US is primarily Christian, there are some other religions and non-religions here in the States. And large companies and the White House did right by including them with the Happy Holidays.

So, weither you celebrate Yule, Winter Solstace, Christmas, Channakah, Kwanzaa, Ramadan, Agnosticia, or The Day of the Moose's Defecate, enjoy your personal celebration. And, well, lately, I've not really had much to say, other than hockey related-stuff. Winter is a more introspective time for me, and depression is being a bit of a freind right now, because of my continued unemployment. I know for one thing, I am really sick of the words "over-qualified" right about now.

Anyhow, in addition to my non-communicativeness, I was a retard and forgot to set up an email address for the blog comment thingy to send me notifications for me to moderate comments. Sorry, I know a lot of folks out there hate people who moderate their comments, thinking the blogger is only releasing stuff that is supportive of their writing. I'm not like that, I just refuse to let my comments get clogged with spam. So, if you don't see your comment right away and it's not spam, it's because I haven't moderated it, not because I didn't like what you have to say. It will be published eventually.

Anyhow, this is another of the older poems. I guess one could call it filler, but it has a real meaning to its message.

The Dream Walker

Out of Many, I am but One
As I walk, I dream
Of Greater Times
Of Time Forgotten

Out of Many, I am but One
As I sleep, I walk
Among Paths oft Unremembered
Among Trails Uninhabited

Out of Many, I am but One
As I watch, I become
The Dream within Dreams
The Vision between the Spaces

Out of Many, I am but One
As I fight, I defend
The Soul of another
The Spirit among the Flesh

Out of but One, I become Many
The Dragon and the Angel
The Daemon of Light
The Power of Darkness

Guardians and Whisperers fly around you,

D

"Libri Umbrae quod Luminarii"

I've finished illuminating the first page of the BoS...

Go Here. In the First Period, it was 3-1 with goals from Handzus (Philly), two from Ilya Kolvalchuk and on from Bobby Holik. Then in the Second, Philly put in four unanswered goals (Radivojecic twice, Gangne, and Hatcher). It's 3-5 going into the locker room for the second break.

Then came the Third....

At 14:06, Garnett was faced with a key play. Philly's Umberger was given a penalty shot for an obvious hooking (in leiu of minutes). Garnett covered the shot with the leg guards. That, plus the penalty kill of Kovalchuk's double minor high-sticking 4:00 man-down time, kept the Thrashers alive.

Then, it happened.

At 17;16 Radivojevic takes a two minute break for hooking, and we get the puck in the Philly defensive zone. We are 5-on-4, and Garnett races for the bench. We are 6-on-4. Forty-six seconds later, Hatcher joins Radivojevic in the box, again for hooking. Face-off in the Philly zone, 6-on-3 hockey. Eight seconds later, Savard and Kovalchuk serve up Peter Bondra for a goal. It's now 4-5. Radovojevic comes back into play, Garnett takes the net, until we put it back in the Philly Zone. Garnett races for the bench again, and we are back to 6-on-4 hockey. Hossa races for the bench, knowing he's tired. Stephan's fresh skates hit the ice. Kovalchuk passes to Mellanby; Mellanby slides it to Stephan. It's 19:56.7 in the Third Period; 7.3 seconds left in the game. Stephan scores. Game tied 5-5.

At 3:05 in Overtime play, 1:55 left before a shoot-out, Ilya penatrates the Zone, and sets up a shot for De Vries, giving up his opprotunity for making both a hat-trick
completing, and a game winning goal. De Vries settles it and fires, putting the rubber between the posts.

Many of the Philly fans are going to say that Philly was robbed by the refs, because a possible 6th goal was waved off. But, the refs saw something most people didn't see. On the replay, it was obvious the shot was played off a stick above horizontal. The Rules of Hockey say that no puck can be played by a stick higher than horizontal to the ice. That was a good call by the referee.

While De Vries is techniqually the game winning scorer, everyone know it was two factors winning the game.

Young Micheal Garnett, only 22 and a rookie, made the decision to win this game. He protected his net when it mattered, only relaxing when he saw the ref see the high-sticked puck heading into the net. Obviously, the goal didn't count, and Garnett didn waste energy on it. He made the saves which counted, including the penalty shot. Garnett knew he played weel, and tonight the kid, who practically skipped an entire level of the minor leagues because of injuries to Dunham and Lehtonhen, earned his first NHL victory. And he did earn it; he fought hard.

Second was, as Garnett put it in the Turner South post-game interview, the "insane offence".

The Offense which decided to show that eight seconds is enough to win.

May the angels of Ice and Wind carry your dreams,

D

Rant: What NASA costs

This Link is to the main NASA page concerning it's budget requests for the 06-10 period.

This year, NASA is budgeted about $16.07 billion, by 2010 NASA's budget is expected to be about $18.02 billion. Now, many people have complained this is too high, and I have to strongly disagree. First, NASA has a history of producing technologies and products which save lives, increase production, and create new products. Additionally, NASA's budget when spread out to the general population (not including the fees and costs they recoup from private sources, which they do) is only around $54.48 per person. NASA's current proceeds from it's research far out weighs that $54.48!

In comparison, the State Department's budget is $31.8 billion this year. The Department of Defence is $419.3 billion. Now, I understand that the Defence of the American people is a vastly important concept, there are ways to reduce that budget in a responsible manner. One method would be normal prices for normal stuff ($500 toliet seats, and $300 claw hammers??).

While I agree that the DoD and the DoS fulfill vital roles in our society, I also put forth that NASA does as well. Without NASA's leadership and development of technology, the US wouldn't be the leader in Space. We wouldn't have landed on Luna; we wouldn't have two probes exploring Mars over a year after they were supposted to DIE!

I would argue that NASA also fulfills a part of the role the Department of Health and Human Services, the Social Security Administration, the VA, and a host of other Federal agencies. NASA's past research is used every day to save lives and to make lives better for those who are disabled. We can even go so far as to say NASA is to blame for me being able to make this rant-ish post. NASA's push to get to Luna by 1969 lead to faster research in minaturization, which has lead to the Personal Home Computer, Pacemakers, and your kitchen's Microwave. This doesn't even get into the space-age materials we find commonly in our world today.

NASA saves lives in other ways. NASA and NOAA work together on a daily basis to improve weather prediction models. It is the satillites of NASA that assist the NOAA forcasters to understand storm movement. Through this partnership, Hurricane path predictions have been dramaticly improved over the past few years. This allows Local and State authorities to issue Evacuation Orders in a more realistic and effective nature. Every life moved out of harm's way in the face of a Hurricane owes NASA a debt.

People quickly forget the major contributions NASA has made to the current version of the American Way of Life when the flashy stuff stops happening. I fear this trend, as it will eventually lead us into a dangerous hole. NASA's mission is vital to the US, and to humanity as a whole. It is time for each of us US citizens to make this clear to our elected officials.

I encourage you to write to your Senators and Congressperson to support NASA in current and future budgetary conciderations. I call for an elimination of "Pork Barrel" budgetary conciderations* and for all of that money to be used wisely, such as a large increase in NASA's budget.

What say you?

*This year, there were a record number of pork projects (over 14,000) in the budget. There are about $426 billion in grants to what should be local/state or private sector reponsiblity projects alone.

Note: I posted this a thread over at the RPGC in the New Astronomy Forum. In honor of the New Year (religious), I will be putting together a Book of Shadows.

For those that don't know, a Book of Shadows is a journal, of sorts, concerning witchcraft and what not.

I've been a practicing pagan since I was about 12 years old, but for some reason I never actually sat down and put together a BoS. I've got quite a few notebooks which hold various subjects of study (angelology/demonology, deities, herbs, stones, rites and rituals, historical evidence, Craft related crafts), but not a single one I can go to and grab a spell for this issue. So, I've decided this will be the year to consolidate, edit, and arrange a handy book which I can use as my main go-to book. I think I will even cross reference the BoS with my notebooks, so if I need more information about a subject I can find it and grab my research notes more readily.

So, now I have to decide some pressing choices. What book will I be using to convert into my BoS? I have a few blank "sketchbooks" which I'm not using at the moment. They are rather nicely made with cloth covered hardbinding, and heavyweight paper (35lbs). But, I am not certain I want to use one of these, or if I want to build a grimorie out of wood. Which brings up it's own questions: what wood; what design for the cover; do I build it box style, book style, or combination; do I strap-edge, leather+wood bind, use henges; what paper, blank or lined; do I sew the pages together, set it up like a binder, or other.

Next choice is the matter of deciding on pens. Do I use a rolling ball pen, a ball-point fountain, or a ball-point (artist's dip pen)? Or, do I toss all of those choices and use a glass pen? Or, do I take the time make a pen expressly for this BoS?

Inks: use standard ink in a pen's well, use the fountain ball-point ink, or if I use the ball-point, do I use commercial or make my own? If I go commercial, do I use acrylic or "India" style?

I will figure it out in the next week or so, and get back to you.

May your Whispers of Winged Messengers meet paper,

D

Thrashers vs. Capitals, 05Nov2005

The Atlanta Thrashers lost to the Washington Capitals tonight in a shoot-out (2-3), so it wasn't a total loss in the league points standings. But, the Thrashers were tied for last place with the Caps in the Southeast Division in the Atlantic Conference, so this loss hurt.

I am starting to think the Thrashers are having a severe problem with consistancy. It seems like after each game they look at what went wrong in the last game, and work on it in practice. But, for some reason, they don't seem to be able to carry over what WORKED for them in the previous game. Against the Tampa Bay Lightning, they were having difficulties with the face-off, but were completely dominating the power-play. They went 4 for 4 on the power play against one of the best penalty kill teams in the league. Why? Because they were moving, and making plays happen.

Tonight, the face-offs were much better. But, the power play looked sad. Most of the time, during any power play, the Thrashers had atleast one man just standing around doing NOTHING (including not moving at all), while the other players were fighting off a sleek looking penalty killing special teams.

I am still having issues with the Refs, but they have gotten a hell of a lot more consistant. But, tonight, on replays, there were two issues I was REALLY worried about. One, immediately after the second Thrasher goal, one of the Capitals cross-checked Slater down to the ice. I don't know about you, but when I was still playing hockey, that kind of crap was called as a double minor Unsportsmanlike Conduct. You're not allowed to cross-check at all, but to do it a full 3 seconds after the whisle is blown is obscene. The worst part is the Ref was behind the goal, watching and signalling the goal. How do you not see something like that? The second issue was when two players were racing for a puck (Atlanta was trying to avoid an icing). The two players got jammed up on the boards, and the linesman skating to make the icing call seemed to hit the Thrasher. The play-by-play guys called it as the guys getting a little physical, and the linesman breaking it up, but that's not what I saw. It appeared to me that the linesman hit the Thrasher with his shoulder. That's just not cool.

Anyway, the Caps looked ten times better than they did the last time the Thrashers played them, and I give a lot of credit to those players. But, my boys have to work for the goals. If you don't, you loose. And that's what happened tonight.

Looking for Angels in the Offensive Zone,

D

Untitled

In the Darkness wanders a man
Alone, pained, he walks
Slowly, turning to each hand
Finding them empty
He cried in anguish
For his palms bare

Wandering in the waste
He falls wretching his heart
Come for me death, come
The wolf hears his cry
Nursing him with nectar
Revives, the man alone.

He walks alone and accompanied
For the Wolf walks behind
The Man oblivious, the nurse-maid behind
Coming across the West
Behold! Say goodbye to my family and people I will miss (my Grandpa Al, Jimmy Doohan, others.)

Next year, I will have to do the huge Hallowe'en extravaganza!

As much as I will enjoy my solace tonight, I miss my yearly Jack-o-lantern obsession.

Oh, and in honor of Hallowe'en, enjoy the crappy MIDI version of "Poor Old Jack" by Danny Elfman, from "The Nightmare Before Christmas" (my all-time favorite movie).

Angelology

Make sure to send a lazy man for the Angel of Death. - Yiddish proverb

I decided to take a look at my studies notebooks and review some subject, and settled on my old Angelology/Demonology notebooks.

Over the years, I have studied this suject on and off for almost a decade now, and I am no closer to understanding the concepts which drive humanity to believe in a creature which can be described as an angel.

To give a little background, I study angels both as a personal belief, but also to understand the creature we call humanity perhaps a little better than I do now. Understand the supernatural and the paranatural beleifs of a society can hold the keys to understand the psychology of the individual.

The Christian concept of angels can be described as creatures of supernatural origins which carry the messenges of God. But, the sources of Christian Angelology are often confusing, conflicting, or even paradoxical. Commonly, the Christian world follows the Dionyses system of Choirs for Angels, but even within this traditional concept there are many contraditions.

Micheal is an Archangel, Angel, Power, Cherub, and a Seraph depending on the source. Uziel is not only all of the above, but sometimes a Lord of Hell. Apollyon was once a celestial being, whom holds the keys of the Abyss, a duty set by God (The Revelation of John), but is now commonly concidered a demon lord, often seen as a form of Satan himself, due to A Pilgrim's Progress.

Most of the named angels often serve as both Angels and as Demons within a single system. This perhaps hints at the duality of nature as we see it. Other versions of this duality can be found in the Seraph the Metatron.

The Metatron is traditionally the highest angel of heaven. One of the names of the Metatron in the Jewish mysticism, Qabbala, is the lesser Tetragammon (YHWH). This verson of it makes it the Feminine of the deity YHVH. In essence, this veiw makes the Metatron a deity of it's own right, but one of lesser greatness and under the control of a higher deity (JHVH/YHVH).

Does this show a key to human psyche? Do we need this balanced path for all things we strive to produce?

May the ebony wings of the Metatron shine in your Imagination,

D

29Oct2005 Tampa v. Atlanta

Tonight my boys looked a lot better than they have been playing. Unfortunately, the still played to a loss, with Tampa getting 3 goals over our 2.

With this game, it really put the exclimation point on the concern I had over the new NHL rules being very dangerous for the teams by way of goaltender injuries. Atlanta has been down our best two goalies for a long time due to injuries. Dunham finally was well enough to dress for the game, but Hartly apparently wanted to give him a bit more time to rest up before he plays again.

Don't get me wrong, Sheilds is a good net-minder, but he's not excellent. And that's the issue Atlanta's been having this season. They've got good 'tenders, not excellent, due to the injuries to Dunham and Lehtonen. Berkhoel is a good 'tender, but he needs more experience in the net before he really plays in the NHL.

Hopefully, Sheilds will return to excellence, and Dunham will be able to play soon, so the Thrashers can break this loosing season.

Here to hoping Angels will grace you,

D

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://deirachel.blogspot.com/2005/10/29oct2005-tampa-v-atlanta.html' title='29Oct2005 Tampa v. Why you ask? Well, because there is still a huge arguement on weither or not 31October is the day commonly refered to as Samhein. Some people claim it's anything from 29October to 2November. That's a pretty long day. Well, unless you live in "Norwegia".

Additionally, there is this fun little argument over the pronounciation of "Samhein". Some people love to scream at anyone that doesn't pronounce it "Sow-in"; the other side of the fence love to point out in today's Ireland/Eire, the word is pronounced as it is spelled "Sam-hein".

You know something?
It really doesn't matter that much.

People around the world love to argue over trivial things. If you are pagan, celebrate this holiday as you see fit. If you're not pagan, celebrate this holiday as you see fit. But, please, do me a favor. Don't start another annual crusade against the Devil and all that is "E-val!" forgetting to be a good person in the process. Oh, and don't start that crap about "them pagans sacrificin' Jimmy's pet cat". It's nutjobs that sacrifice animals like cats. There are very few pagan religious beleifs which condone animal sacrifice. And, I've never heard of one that called for pet animals to be sacrificed. (Pun alert!) Hell!, Satanist don't even condone sacrificing the black cat to the Devil!

Oh, for those super-"Christians" who wish to say Hallowe'en is pagan..... it isn't. Hallowe'en is a Catholic Holiday (All Hallow's Eve) celebrating the Angels and Dead Saints of their faith. Yeah, it's overlayed on a specific pagan holiday, but Hallowe'en is not pagan. Even worse, "Halloween" isn't even vaguely religious. It's a day for the candy and costume companies to rake in the profits. Get over yourselves. There is no biblical passages saying letting your kid dress up as a demon is wrong. Besides, Jesus wouldn't have condoned your tactics anyway. He never used violence, in word or act, except when a TEMPLE was being desecrated. When people sinned around him, he taught them the "correct" way to live via gentle words and example. Never once did Jesus of Nazereth ever say a specific individual was "evil" or they "were going to Gehenna". He said people who don't follow the Way would be burned in the fires of Gehenna. To be a Christian means you have to be "Christ-like". Unless Christianity is actually based on the life of some Jesus of Nazereth not in the Bible, the actions of those "Halloween is Satanic" folks isn't very Christ-like.

Anyway, for pagans, this is the holiday of remembrance and reflection. It is a holiday to think about and be thankful for the past. It is a time to forgive. It is a time to look with hope into the future.

Arguing over exact dates, pronounciations, and such is not reflective of this spirit.

Find your Michael to banish the Nightmares,

D

P.S. Be expecting another Blue (Hockey) post, and possibly another post after 2200 tonight.

<img width='1' height='1' 192);">Ok, so for an explination....

A while back, I started playing in jewelry design. So, I started designing a peice of jewelry for My Dearest Freind (remember, from the post "Secrecy"). Well, both of us are/were fans of the Dragonlance Saga from TSR/WotC. In it, the Silvanesti (a group of elves....[sarcasm]really original name...."Forest City People"....[/sarcasm)) give each other Starjewels as external symbols for the bonds of love and wedlock. With us both being DL fans....and us both being Elf-children, I decided to start work on a Starjewel for her. Well, project never actually got done....and I don't know where the base plate I cast in silver for it went to.

Anyway, the design called for four types of stones, cut in different fashions.

Shining Bright, Elf king gives his love a trinket.
With Inner Light, the Heartstone crowns the work
A captured flight, the mossy leaves surround it.
Kissed by a Sprite, the Royal stone binds them.
From the Isle of Might, eight tears of the Mountain King

This part of the poem tells the stones. The "Heartstone" was a pigeon-blood garnet, round, faceted. "Mossy Leaves" were going to be Mossy Agate leaf cut beads. The "Royal" stone is dark purple ametheyst, used here in a marquis cut. The "eight tears" are four large and four smaller teardrop cabocaned Irish Malacite (the Isle of Might was a nickname for Ireland/Eire).

Each verse of the poem describes each parts of the shape, material amid some colorful words. (In DL, a magical type of silvery metal called "Dragonsilver" was created by the death of an ancient dragon "Wyrmfather"....so, the dragon reference belongs to that part, the base plate.)

Except of course, the final four lines. They are the sentimental part of the poem and well, they speak for themselves.

Angel's Feathers carry your to the care of Morpheus,

D

Hockey

(If you don't like hockey, this post is going to bore you to tears, sorry. Give me a minute or so, and I will have another post up for those that don't like hockey.)

While watching my boys, the Atlanta Thrashers, loose again tonight, I realised something had been bothering me for sometime now about the referees of "The New NHL." Well, tonight I figured it out. They are calling games poorly. And I don't mean the refs are screwing over my team (even though tonight it did seem that way), but in all the games I've seen so far this season. In every game, it seems to me the refs are more concentrating on the new rules and new to this season changes, while they are not calling rules violations which have been almost unchanged for 50+ years!!

Tonight for instance, Atlanta got called for hooking, which put Pittsburg onto a power-play. Normally, I wouldn't have had a problem with that call, why cause it was borderline the player did it (borderline calls = err on side of caution IMO). So what made this time different?

The uncalled holding on Ilya Kolvalchuk in the neutral zone. The Peguin ALMOST had Kolvalchuk's sweater over his HEAD!! Obviously, a holding call right? Wrong, atleast according to this genius of a ref. So, instead of Atlanta having a powerplay, Pittsburg takes the puck and scores on thier own powerplay from the hooking just after the holding (a penalty performed in attempt to stop a goal on the break-away).

And the worst part? Rule 41b. The ref's make call a horribly bad call like that and no player, manager, coach, or anyone else can despute their decision on the call, EVER!

That's called bull-shit. I watched the Flordia vs. Pittsburg game earlier this week and I saw some really bad and iffy calls in that game, too.

It's making me wonder......

Did the Commissioner tell the refs to help the Pengiuns finally win a game since Lemieux and Crosby couldn't pull it off for themselves? Because, if they don't win, then the "Next One" hype (and all those marketing dollars) go down the drain.

It's either that or the NHL is hiring incompetent Referees from NHLOA.

The new rules make hockey faster, and that's still something I am not making a call on for like/dislike. But, the old rules have to be called, too!

May the Moon's Angel enfold your Dreams in His Wings,

D

Secrecy

That which is secret is dangerous - Unknown

Secrecy is the beginning of Tyranny - Robert A Heinlein (Time Enough for Love, SECOND INTERMISSION: More from the Notebooks of Lazarus Long)

These quotes jumped into my thoughts today.

I finally started reading The Templars: the Dramatic History of the Knights Templar, the Most Powerful Military Order of the Crusades (Piers Paul read, Phoenix Press, 6th Printing, 2002) sent to me all the way from the Land of Oz, by My Dearest Friend, who is in the the city famous for Opera and a fictional dentist's fish tank here in the States.

The subject matter of this scholarly tome is rather self-evident. It cover much of the rise and fall of the Templars. It begins with Abraham through the original building of the Temple of Solomon through the New Temple (also known as Herrod's Temple), "Rival Temple" (The rise of Islam) and the conquest of Jerusalem by Crusaders in June 1099 as a part of First Crusade under Pope Urban II. The book then continues into the rise of the Poor Fellow-Solders of Jesus Christ (or commonly Knight Templar) beginning in the at the founding in "The Holy City" in 1118. For there, it talks about the spread of the Templars through out the Christian world and into the international banking pioneers, the first uniformed standing army of the West, and the most powerful military order of the Crusades period. Finally, it discusses the fall of the order beginning with the expropriation by King Philip IV of France and cumulating with the suppression by Pope Clement V in 1312 for blasphemy, heresy, and sodomy. In this final section, it attempts to separate the fact from the fiction. In doing so, it attempts to ascertain the motivations behind the men and institutions who leveled the charges against these men, who were either Holy Christian Warriors, or Men of Evil Daemonic Persuasion.

How does this apply to my opening quotes, you ask?

Simply this:

Many people believe the Knights Templar are the basis for the esoteric order the Masonic Lodge.

Not being a Lodge member myself, I can not say for certain this is true or not. However, we will explore the fear of secret knowledge the quotes seem to embody.

Sometime in the Dreams we call the Distant Past, esoteric knowledge and practitioners were respected as honored members of society. Somewhere along the way, the free exchange of ideas and uncommon wisdom became something to be guarded and protected. Eventually, Esoteric Aedepts began to guard these teachings to the point of only teaching those they determined worthy. This I believe is the root base for todays modern esoteric societies, such as the Masonic Lodge, Ordo Templi Orientalis, and the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn. The reality of time and exposure to mundane thought has cause some of these orders to cease to be a truly powerful, occulted esoteric study, but to become a place of powerful, rich, and connected people to enjoy each other's company and the company of alcohol.

Does this mean the innocent age of Man will no longer be re-attainable. Will we never be able to return to the past freedom, where peering into th Dark Places of ourselves and the World Around us to learn the beauty of the Unknowable again?

I will answer with these quotes:

Non me pudet fateri nescire quod nesciam (I am not ashamed to confess that I am ignorant of what I do not know)- Marcus Tullis Cicero

Question Everything. Until recently, I never really saw any reason to have a blog. It is a diary, a journal, a notebooks of thoughs and dreams. I never understood why one would wish to place this in the hands of another via the Internet.

And then well, it started to make sense. A blog isn't exactly the same as a private journal. It is a place to express opinion, to share thoughts, to communicate with another person, even when you don't feel anyone understands how you are feeling.

Sometimes I don't really feel like talking or sharing, so don't be too suprised if this blog doesn't get updated on some sort of arbitrary schedual. I will input my thoughts when they strike me.

What is this blog going to be about?

I can't really tell you. I can tell you this, though. Unless you are planning on using this blog as a resource for a random human psychology analysis, please don't assume I am giving you any real factual data. I will do my best to ensure what I say is well thought out, and as accurate as possible, but remember I am not some super-man who knows everything. Don't assume this blog will be accepted as a source for your term paper. That's silly. Go look in the Library for that type of research.

Most likely, I will be posting random thoughts, opinions, and various things I find interesting. I may put stuff about my real life, or not.

Hopefully, this cyber-journal will allow you to think about your beleifs and opinions. We must constantly re-evaluate these pieces of our Psyche to promote growth and to calm the inner storms.
